Confidentiality

Everyone involved with Off The Record has to agree to keep things confidential. This means:

  • We only ask for first names,so unless you tell us, we have no other details about you
  • We will not tell anyone you have contacted us or anything about you without your permission. (The only exception is if we think you or another person is in danger.  Then we might be legally bound to let someone else know.  If this happens we will not do anything without letting you know and talking your options through with you.)
  • Our telephone systems mean that we can't trace your call, and 1471 can't be activated
  • If you phone  our freephone helpline, calls won't show on most phone bills
  • If you e-mail us, your e-mail will only be read by the E-mail team.  All our PC's require passwords and can only be used by trained Off The Record staff.
  • If you write to us, your letter will only be read by members of our 'write In' team
  • Any print outs of your e-mail or letters will be securely stored and shredded in line with our confidentiality procedures
  • Our privacy policy covers any contact you make with Off The Record via our web or e-mail services
